The author states that the first PR practitioners were press agents. Those who were trying to advance their clients image. (pg.432) PR firms aren't interested in serving the public in any form its all about serving their client. If their client is the alchohol industry they need to put out press releases that put a positive spin on the use of alchohol.

Chapter 12 knowledge Claim
The Public Relations Society of America define the business of public relations as an entity that "helps an organization and its publics adapt mutualy to each other". PR aims to prevent interpersonal problems before they arise.
