Chapter 6 Knowledge Claims

America's culture was changed in 1981 when MTV was launched. Also the book says MTV has drawn a lot of fire for eroding of morals and traditions in America (215-216).

Cable has given America a choice when it comes to what we watch on television. Since cable has come out such networks like ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX aren't the only game in town. People were willing to pay more money for more programming. In my opinion Cable has given a voice to a diverse audience. People can go and watch BET, Univision, Spike, or Lifetime. The Television Industry has figured out that people will pay for niche programming.

I think the outside influenses that effect us are usually chosen by us. If there is something we are interested in, we persue it, even if all it is is a TV channel. If we think it may have negative effects on us, we don't have to watch it. This is the case with TV. The case chages with society and people we're around. Not every outside influence can be controlled, and who is to say that it should be. This is life.
