The first TV transmission was first sent by Philo Farnsworth in 1927 (pg. 160). Ever since then we all have been subjected to vast amounts of images. One event the book talks about is the September 11 terror attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
The book also mentions that since the 1960's, Americans find TV news more trustworthy than print news (168).
TV is full of powerful images. Television sometimes shapes the way we think about things, we get up to the second information, and television inevitably shapes our culture.

TV definitely shapes our culture. Personally I think it is the actual American pass-time. It is always easier to watch something than to read about it. Plus, there is a personal connection when we see what is going on rather than imagining it. It's a shame TV replaces reading often; reading helps develop problem solving skills in the brain. However, the technology certainly is useful.
